What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a tooth root substitute made of a strong, lightweight, biologically compatible material that looks like a screw. The implant is attached to the jawbone in place of the lost tooth, and a crown of the tooth is attached to it.
The easiest way to understand the nature of a dental implant is to follow the steps below:
- Implant = tooth root
- Butment = the part of the implant that carries the superstructure of the implant
- Crown = the visible crown of the tooth
The implant, when correctly placed, is exactly like a real tooth in both appearance and functionality. It is the most physiological tooth replacement available today, with a long life span and is painless and comfortable for the patient.
